Quick Reference Guide to 10BASE-T Twisted-Pair Ethernet

5.4 10BASE-T Twisted-Pair Physical Topology

The physical topology supported by twisted-pair link segments is the star. In this topology a set of link segments are connected to a hub, and radiate out from the hub to the computers like the rays from a star. Another way to visualize the topology is a wagon wheel, with the hub at the center and each link segment as a spoke of the wheel.

FIGURE 5.3 10BASE-T twisted-pair star topology

Figure 5.3 shows a four-port twisted-pair repeater linking four DTEs with twisted-pair link segments. The signals from each DTE are sent through the repeater, and repeated out onto all other segments.
